This young infantry musician surrounds himself with a number of instruments in the 1/6th plate ambrotype taken during the Civil War.  He wears his musician’s frock with herringbone trim, all of his accoutrements including the shoulder belt for his 1840 Musician’s sword. His dress Hardee hat is propped on his knee, while his holds a fife.  A clarinet and concertina are on the table to his right.

Although unidentified, he has the look of a regular army musician; unfortunately, the gilt accent on the insignia of his hat disguise the unit designation.

There are some scuff marks in the emulsion, but don’t detract to much from the appearance. Quite a busy image, an a desirable one at that.

Maintained within its original leatherette case, in fine condition, not broken at the hinge like most.  No photographer information.
