Description

1/9th Plate Ruby Ambrotype & Soldier’s War Record.  The record for Private Jonathan B. Currier, is a Moroccan leather booklet with gilt borders and lettering entitled, “Portfolio of Personal Military and Civil History.” 30 pages (not including the end papers which are used as well), having places to tip in photographs, or write in personal and military history throughout the book. Several plates show photogravure images of the Capital, White House, military leaders, army corps badges plate, and other pages to record or copy his military documents.  There are two long fold-out plates recording his enlistments in both the 48th and 60th Massachusetts Infantries.

The book measures 7 x 9 inches.

The 1/9th plate ruby ambro has Currier  seated in his frock coat, while holding his forage cap with the “48” within the loop of the infantry horn. There are scratches and areas of emulsion loss, but still a decent view, and important to have with the history. The image has its original mat and is placed in a wooden -open case that was once lined in red velvet.

Jonathan Brown Currier enlisted from Wenham, Mass into Co. G. 48th Mass, to serve 9 months. The type fold-out certificate has a good history for Currier,  signed by C.G. Bridges, Historian for the Soldier and Sailors Historical and Benevolent Society with official gold seal. Another fold-out for his service in the 60th Mass is present too.

A neat little lot in overall very good-fine condition.
