The acting Secretary for the Department of War, reports on the destruction of the books and paper in that department, by fire, designating particularly what books, and papers were affected. The library was completely destroyed (“and contained many military works of celebrity..”). I have photographed all the pages to see what was damaged, etc.
Accounts relating to the old army, relating to muster and pay rolls, services and supplies contracted for the State of New York in 1799. Robert Ball’s accounts for the State of North Carolina in 1799. Many other contracts for New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Vermont in 1800. Also Nathan Starr’s accounts for furnishing swords, belts, and scabbards for the 1799 contract.
