Description
An interesting lot of insignia, and puzzling as well. The enlisted cap insignia for the 1st U.S.Volunteer Cavalry was introduced in 1896 and worn until 1905. The collar insignia was not introduced until 1902 when enlisted insignia was worn on the collar (this being gilt for the dress uniform).
The only designation for the 1st USV Cavalry would be for Roosevelt’s Rough Riders. So could a Rough Rider from company “K” have upgraded his uniform pattern to the new 1902 regulations?
The insignia appear to ge gold plated, though not marked other than some of the sabers each having the marking, “Pat App’l For”.
All fine condition. No provenance as to history.
