Description

29th Infantry Division Medal Group with Dog Tags, Etc.

Identified to Private Reginald E. Schroeder, 111th Field Artillery Bn. with T-44 dated Dog Tag, and collar brass. The 111th DUI is a later variety, and came with the group, but displays nicely showing what the period DUIs looked like.

“The 111th FA Battalion, part of the 29th Infantry Division, was part of the Virginia National Guard.  It took part in the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944, but its members were not happy with their mission. The plan was for them to bring their 105mm howitzers ashore two hours after the initial landings, to support the 116th Infantry Regiment, which was intended to have secured the beach by then. But the unit’s leader, Lt Colonel Mullins, was concerned that the DUKW amphibious vehicles which were their intended transport were not able to bear heavy loads in rough seas.  Each DUKW had to carry a howitzer, fourteen men, ammunition, sandbags and other equipment to the beach.  Lieutenant Colonel Mullins was killed during the battle.”  (Wiki)

The Purple Heart is not numbered. The EAME has 1 silver star on ribbon representing 5 campaigns, and 5 individual stars on the ribbon bar. 3 ribbon bar is pin back as shows some wear.

Single dog tag.

This just came from a dealer/collector from a show recently, and there was no information on Schroeder.

Overall very good condition.
