Description

2nd Lieutenant of Artillery Smith’s Patent Shoulder Straps.

Smith’s Patent straps became popular during the Civil War days, offering officers a quality set of shoulder straps, but not the cost to go with them. They were made of stamped brass, having a (false) embroidered look, and applied stamped rank insignia.  The nature of these were the tendency to dent, finish wear off, etc.

This pair of straps for a 2nd lieutenant of Artillery has the red wool background color for that branch. The condition shows some good service time.  The pair is mostly from the Indian Wars to the Spanish American War era.

Very good.
