30th U.S. Infantry Soldier’s Hand Book – Brief Diary of Service In Philippines

$200.00

30th U.S. Infantry Soldier’s Hand Book – The SOLDIER’S HANDBOOK For Use In The Army Of The United States, Prepared By Direction Of The Adjutant General Of The Army, By N. Hershler, Washington: GPO 1900. Hard blue leather covers, 102 pages, illustrated with first aid procedures, etc.

Brief Diary of Service In Philippines. This handbook was issued to John Ward, who was initially in Co. C, 28th Infantry, and then, according to a latter entry, a member of Co. G, 30 Infantry. The first entries record clothing issues with cost, then info on his discharge on Dec. 20, 1903, paid $26,63., and signed as Corporal, 30th Infantry.  He entered service from Pittsburgh, Pa.

Very seldom are these hand books found with this amount of information regarding one’s service, just the rudimentary entries covering clothing issue, and not much else.

I have photographed all the pages covering his service in the Philippines (see photo section).

Very good, with some leather loss on the upper spine ; general wear.
