Description
This brass artillery shell ashtray fired a projectile of 2 inches; there are no markings on the piece. It stands 2 1/4 inches high, and has an applied thick blue and white enameled 3rd Infantry Division patch insignia brazed on and filled with lead around the sides for a nice finished look. It never had any cigarette holders applied to the rim.
Condition is fine. No history, just a colorful example of WWII trench art shell work, probably made during the 3rd ID’s time in the Italian Theater.
