This artillery pole pad was found among other artillery items by a collector on Bannerman’s Islands in 1965.

Description
Artillery Pole Pad For Civil War Limber.
The pole pad, Model of 1863, was attached to the front end of the cannon limber pole to protect the lead horses from being injured, as well as the limber pole. Constructed of thick leather with sections all sewn together. The original retaining pin is present. Unmarked,
Shows use with crackling and wear to leather, particularly on the front section. A very nice example of an artillery accoutrement not commonly seen.
