Description
This autographed quality portrait image by the U.S. Signal Corps of Lt. General Wade H. Haislep, was taken on 26, January, 1947, and sighed by the general on “12/18/47,” taken while a senior advisor to the Chief of Staff, U.S. Army. He would receive his 4th star as VCSA in 1949 (Vice Chief of Staff, US Army).
General Haislip was born in 1889, and was from Woodstock, Va. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1912 as an infantry officer seeing action in Vera Cruz, Mexico in 1914, with the American Expeditionary Forces in France, serving in the 3rd Division.
In WWII he organized the 85th Division, and commanded both the XV Corps, serving their as commander during the Normandy, France, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns, also commanding 7th Army in the ETO toward the end of the war.
Wade Haislip is responsible for introducing Dwight D. Eisenhower to Mamie Doud, while serving at Fort Sam Houston, TX in their early career years. He also was a pall-bearer at President Eisenhower’s funeral.
General Haislip retired in 1951, passing away in 1971 at Walter Reed Medical Center, and was buried along side his wife, Alice Jennings Shepard. Wade Haislip was an accomplished and outstanding soldier.
Condition of the image is excellent; the autograph is dark and clearly visible.
