Description
Black Bridle Leather Waist Belt With Oval “US” Belt Plate. The belt plate still retains original luster in protected areas.
The belt show use, with crackled leather, and some chipping along edges, but still a nice example of the issue waist belt to dismounted troops during the Civil War. The belt retains its brass keeper. Stamped about 3-4 inches from the keeper, are both maker and sub inspector stamps; neither of the stampings are recognizable.
The adjustment holes of the belt appear to have never been stressed much by the buckle tongue, and perhaps was an unissued accoutrement.
Nice example.
