Boeing B-17 Control Wheel & Cap.
B-17 Control Wheel & Cap. This is the earlier version with black background on natural aluminum color. The cap measures 3 1/4 inches. inside are scratched in name of a worker and her sentiments, this being a common practice. This woman worker added (as best as I can cypher, “Miss Dixie Mc…/ 1025 28th …. / Cheyenne Wyo / Good luck Boys/ best landings with this ship.”
The wheel shows had use, as does the cap. The 16 inch wheel covered in a hard black rubber coating with white painted “MICROPHONE” on the left side cross bar indication the white button for commo use by the pilots. The other side was not in use. An arrow in white on the lower horizontal bar.
A desirable piece of WWII memorabilia for one of the most famous of American war planes, the B-17 “Flying Fortress.”
