One of the motives that have actuated me in recalling these simple annals of our daily life, has been to give a glimpse to civilians of garrison and camp life–about which they seem to have such a very imperfect knowledge

Description

Boots and Saddles or Life in Dakota with General Custer By Elizabeth B. Custer, with Portrait and map.  Published by Harper & Brothers, New York, 1885.  312 pps. This edition has the portrait of George Custer and the map. A hardcover book, possibly a first edition (though it does not state that). There is a bookseller sticker on the inside of the front of the book.

This book is in very good condition; the cloth covered brown boards are bright, with gilt detailing.  There are some blemishes and scuffs to the front and back covers and some wear to the cloth along the spine and the edges.  Bumped corners.  The text is clear, pages are lightly toned, and there is some edge staining along the outer all the pages, looks like water damage. That page discoloration has faded with time.  There is a faint wave to the pages. Spine is nice and tight.

As Mrs. Custer writes in the Preface, “One of the motives that have actuated me in recalling these simple annals of our daily life, has been to give a glimpse to civilians of garrison and camp life–about which they seem to have such a very imperfect knowledge…”
