Boxed DSM Medal Lot for General Edward G. Heckel – (As Colonel) 125th Infantry Regt. 32nd Division WWI. This medal lot consists of the general’s boxed DSM #1931 (see his citation in photo section), His silver star #6829 (copy of his Silver Star Citation Card in photo section. The number listed on card about 100 numbers off, but have been told this is a common occurrence). Made by BB&B, and engraved on the back. The Spanish War Service Medal is #17404, (for service in Wis. NG). Mexican Border War Medal #12305 (verified on card from George Harris), A 4 bar Victory Medal, Pershing -Army of Occupation Medal, French and Belgian Croix de Guerre with palm, Wisconsin SAW Medal, USWV medal, Military Order of the World War medal, #1973, Reserve Officer’s Assc. Medal, Wisconsin and US shooting badges, insignia including a pair of J.R. Gaunt/ London 925 sliver eagles, and Meyer Sterling silver star (pin back). and 32nd Division patch. There is also a two inch thick ring binder with loads of back ground data on Heckel, history of his regiment, and 32nd Div in the war, and a few pieces of original paper items.
A nice clean historic grouping. Case will not be shipped with lot.
Edward G. Heckel (1877- 1941), was a veteran of the Spanish American War, and World War I. At the age of 64, he was forced to retire due to a continued illness, and died at a veteran’s hospital in Battle Creek, Michigan. He began is military career as a lieutenant in the Wisconsin National Guard. In 1918 he was a LtCol. in the 125th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Division, and a few months later was promoted to colonel. In 1922, Gen. Heckel was promoted to brigadier general in the Reserve Corps. A banker in civilian life, and commission of parks and boulevards in Chicago, State commissioner of corrections, and more.
