Description
Brass Faced Dragoon Curb Bit – Circa 1850s, a bit smaller in size than others in the period. Dorsey & McPheeters refer to this bit as being 25 percent smaller than others of the period. It has round billet eyes and no hole for adding a curb chain hooks. The entire bit is brass plated with nearly all the plating present. Only the port, and rings in iron.
No markings. Approximately 7.5 inches high.
Scarce in this condition, as the thin brass usually begins to flak long before this. A super bit most likely used by officers in the 50’s and Civil War era.
Excellent condition.
