BRUNTON / York, England Box Lock Pistol.
This finely made box lock, screw barrel flint pistol was made by Richard Brunton of York, England, Circa 1815. His name is found in an oval panel amidst a finely engraved panoply of flags on the left side of the small frame; his place of business, York, England is found on the opposite side in a similar panoply.
The 1 1/2 inch barrel turns off with the use of a key, that fits over the barrel with a slot that fits over the stud on the bottom of the barrel for turning off (no key).
- Over all length is 5 3/4 inches
- caliber is approximately .47
- 2 notch tumbler
- Safety slide activates forward at full cock.
- Frizzen spring is mounted on the outer side of frizzen.
- One piece plain walnut stock.
- Lock mounted on top of frame, held down by a tang screw at the rear, and two screws forward (one missing).
- Mechanics are excellent.
The finish overall is very good, with traces of blue on barrel and frizzen spring. The other iron parts are a grayish brown patina. The light in the photos make some parts look more brown finish, Some very fine pitting on the frame near the pan, and on the barrel, light but heaviest at right side of muzzle.
