Cabinet Photo of Lieutenant Frederick C. Kimball, 5th U.S. Infantry.  No photographer backmark. 5 x 7 inches.

First Lieutenant Kimball graduated from USMA, Class of 1886, and was assigned to  the 5th Infantry in July of that year, and reported to his regiment at Fort Keogh, Montana Terr. in Sept. of 1886. then to Fort Bliss, Texas to June of 1888 – March, 1891. He then served as a Professor of Military Science and Tactics at Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont for March 1891 to Sept. of 1893. He had been on the regimental rolls of the 4th Infantry during his time at Norwich.  He rejoined the 5th in Sept. 1893 served at St. Francis Barracks, Florida, to October of 1894, then transferred to Fort McPherson, Georgia.

Likely taken at Fort McPherson, Georgia, being stationed there from October 1894 to September of 1898.  He died there from Peritonitis.

Lt. Kimball is mounted wearing the pattern 1895 undress coat, and garrison cap issued beginning in that year.  A nice clean and sharp image.
