A pencil inscription on the reverse is weak but was translated.
CDV – 12th New York Volunteer Soldier, in state uniform. An ink notation records this soldier as being part of the Color Guard, 12th New York Vols. in 1861. Written in pencil and well worn, but was translated: “This is a photograph of a young friend who served in the 12 Regiment in “61. He now has a grandfather 14 years old.”
