Description
CDV – 1st Lieutenant Alpheus K. Long – 7th U.S. Colored Infantry. Signed on the image, “Yours Truly / A.K. Long / 2nd Lt. C.H. 7th U.S.C.I.” The reverse has notation that Long had prior service with the 138th New York Infantry, and the 9th New York Artillery.
Long was commissioned into company H, in December of 1863, and mustered out in October of 1866. The regiment saw a good deal of fighting in the latter part of the war in Virginia, the heaviest casualties coming at Fort Gilmore, in September of 1864, losing 47 killed, 46 wounded, 79 taken prisoner, and 8 missing.

Very good condition with clipped corners, with ink signature a bit light but legible.
