This image of a 51st N.Y. private is wearing his new federal frock coat.
I sold not long ago, another similar image for a soldier in the 51st New York Infantry, wearing his state gray uniform, unlike this private of the same regiment who has been federalized with a new frock coat and forage cap. The knapsack, white buff belt with “SNY” oval belt plate, and the older pattern 1842 musket with white sling.
The private is not identified, but was photographed by D. M’Glashan’s, Sunlight Picture Rooms, Syracuse, N.Y.
Fine quality image, with lightly clipped corners.
