Description

CDV – Brevet Brigadier General William W. Morris. He was a graduate of the USMA Class of 1820.  Over his long career in the army he served in a host of campaigns and wars including, Arickaree Expedition, 2nd Seminole War, Mexican War, and the Civil War. Serving a good deal of his pre Civil War years on the frontier, Morris was at Fort Ridgley, Minn. at the beginning of the war. He held several brigade commands in various corps, and eventually had command of Fort McHenry, (and commanded Baltimore Harbor defenses), where he died on December 11, 1865.
