CDV- John N. Waddle, Co. D, 12th West Virginia Infantry. Signed on the back with full unit designation, ” J.N. Waddle / 12th West Va. Vols 24th AC / Army of the James.”  Photographer is Partridge’s Gallery, Wheeling, WV., with a 2 cent Proprietary Revenue stamp.

Waddle enlisted in August of 1862 as a private into Co. D. 12th West Virginia Infantry.  He wrote a diary entitled, War Memories 1862- 1865, J.N. Waddell, Co. D. 12th Virginia Vol. Inft.  49 pages giving a great account of his service during the war.
