Description
CDV – Lieutenant & Adjutant H.P. Curtis – 1st Massachusetts Cavalry.
Photographed by Marshall & Co. Boston, this image captures Major Herbert Pelham Curtis of the 1st Mass. Cavalry, in a rather relaxed pose. Interesting is the shoulder straps are for either a major, yet the uniform coat is regulation for a company grade officer.
Curtis was with the regiment from the beginning until the end of the war. He then commissioned into the US Volunteer Judge Advocate Dept. until 1867. He held brevet ranks for LtCol, and Colonel.
A fine historic cavalry regiment.
Fine condition.
