CDV – Lieutenant Colonel Jabob H. Counselman, 1st Maryland Cavalry.

An original, Civil War era carte de visite in sleeve, matted, and labeled. Photographed at the end of the war by N.H. Busey, Baltimore, marked on the border of carte and on reverse.

Jacob H. Counselman graduated USMA, Class of 1863. Enlisted as a 2nd Lt. on 6/11/1863 into U.S. Army Bat. K 1st Light Artillery. Promoted to Brevet 1st Lt. for Gallantry at Battle of Brandy Station. Commissioned into Field & Staff of 1st Maryland Cavalry on 4/20/1864. Promoted to Brevet Capt., Major., and Lt. Col. while with the 1st Maryland. After the war served in U.S. Army Aug. 1865 to July 1872. Died in Baltimore, Md. February 1875 and subsequently buried in Arlington Cemetary.
