William A. Fifield was a carpenter from Lowell, Mass, and enlisted as a first sergeant, 7th Battery Mass. Light Artillery, May 21, 1861. 2nd lieutenant, July 25, 1861. 1st lieutenant, April 14, 1862. Resigned, Nov. 15, 1862.
Second Lieutenant, 59th Mass. Infantry, September 26, 1863 and promoted to first lieutenant, Jan. 25, 1864. He was wounded on May 15, 1864 (although not stated the regiment was engaged for several days in battle at Spottsyvania Court Housem Va. Discharged (disability), Sept. 24, 1864.
