With his 1860 pattern saber resting on his right shoulder for this pose, a young New York trooper stands for the photographer from the “Union Picture Gallery, Auburn, New York, S. Hall Morris.” He wears a regulation shell jacket and mounted saber belt with the 1851 eagle plate, and also wearing black leather gloves.
