Identified by name, but not by regiment; possibly from NYC 8th Regiment.
Standing in a great Napoleonic type pose, hand inside jacket, holding his shako behind him, this young soldier looks well to do, and just old enough to be in the military. His accoutrement belt, including cap box and scabbard are present, but the bayonet has been left somewhere else. A watch chain hanging below the belt suggest a bit of affluence.
The image is named on the back in pencil, “Thos S. Thorp,” and the photograph taken by S. Friedlaender, The Bowery, N.Y.
Fine quality image.
