CDV of a 1st U.S. Cavalryman Stationed In California. This private poses in his dress uniform with his 1872 dress helmet beside him. Note he has not adopted the easy method of cutting the helmet cords below the tassel, and adding a snap hook to allow him to leave his cords on uniform, while have the convenience of placing his helmet down without taking cords off.
The regimental numbers are seen clearly on each collar, and his saber hangs off belt hook at his left side.
Taken by Murray Dunham, Oakland, California.
Image is a bit light, but very good. A nice study image of the Indian Wars Army dress uniform.
