Description

Old Fort Snelling began it’s history in the 1820s, one of the early established forts on the western frontier. it was an active post up through to the Indian Wars, particularly during the Civil and Indian Wars days.

This carte de visite image was taken by Whitney’s Gallery, St. Paul, Minnesota during the 1860s era, The photo shows the fort established on the high bluff above the confluence of the Missouri and Minnesota Rivers.

Condition is very good, light soiling and slight lifting on mount, lower right corner.
