Description

CDV Signed By Lt. Col. Franklin L. Knight 24th New Jersey Volunteers.  Photographed by Brady’s National Photographic Portrait Galleries, New York. Knight signed this directly on the image, “Yours Very Respectfully / Frank L. Knight.”

Knight enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant  (and later captain) in the 3rd New Jersey Infantry in May of 1861, and was discharged for promotion in September of that year, after which he was commissioned in September of 1862 as Lt. Colonel of the 24th New Jersey (9 month unit).  He was listed as being a POW with no place or date recorded on the data site, but most likely with the 3rd New Jersey’s engagements in 1862 (possibly at Gaines MIlls, Va), paroled on 8/27/ 1862.

The 24th saw action in the Battles of Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville.

A very good image, with clipped corners. Clear signature of Knight.
