CDV – Union Soldier Wearing Waterproof Cap & Cape, using vulcanized India-Rubber material, which became popular during the Civil War, but were items that likely were purchased privately by soldiers and sailors alike. It appears that the cape is a separate item and simply worn over his issue uniform coat.
