Description

CDV – William P. Roome 65th New York Infantry.  Taken in civilian clothing.

This regiment was organized on Long Island in 1861. Mustered in for one month as a private in Company F, 7th New York Militia in April of 1861. Enlisted as a 2nd lieutenant into Company F, 65th NY infantry; 1st Lt. November 1861 in Co. I;  Adjutant in February 1862.  Accepted a commission of captain and asst. adjutant general, U.S. Vols. in February of 1863.  Promoted to major by brevet on October 19, 1864, for Opequan, Va.
