Description

Civil War 1st Lieutenant of Staff Shoulder Straps.

This sweet smaller sized straps came with the Major Oliver A. Horner (1st Potomac Home Cavalry, Maryland), and these just seemed to be missed when looking for items to place on the site.  Oliver Horner spent most of his service in Cole’s Maryland Cavalry (1st PHBn C), but toward the end of the war was detached as an assistant adjutant general, and these straps show little use.

Horner was mustered into Co. C of the 1st Maryland PHB Cavalry in November of 1861, was promoted several times during the war to 1st Sergeant, 2nd and 1st lieutenant, and major in February of 1865.  He was captured during the war, at Middletown, Md on July 6, 1864, but escaped that same day.

The straps are 1 3/8 x 3 1/4 inches.

Excellent condition with light toning to the gold bullion.  The photo of items shown is all that was in the small collection for Oliver Horner when found.
