Description
This U.S. Navy small boat flag is completely hand sewn and has three whip-stitched grommets on heavier canvas on the hoist. The signature of “Robert Patterson” is written on in period ink. A stencil on the other side reads, “ NO 12.” Made of cotton bunting throughout.
The star pattern on the canton is 3-2-3-2-3; the stars being 5 inches and are applied on each side. Stripes are approximately 3 ½ inches each.
Size is 45 inches on the hoist and 82 inches on the fly. Condition is very good with sporadic mothing and fraying. Color is still bright and just lightly soiled.
This is a excellent example of a Civil War period U.S. Navy small boat flag.
