A wartime pair for a captain of artillery retaining their original patent labels.
A hard to find pair of Smith’s Patent shoulder straps for a captain of artillery. Each strap retains most of the original label adhered to the wool backing. The straps are stamped brass, false embroidered borders with captain’s insignia (in same patent stamped brass).
The labels read, “JAS.S. SMITH PATENT, JUNE 18, 1861, 15 DUTCH STREET, NEW YORK.”
Both straps show moth damage on the sides and as seen in photos. There is some slight twisting to the brass borders, but still fine condition.
A very desirable pair of artillery straps with the Smith’s Patent labels intact.
