Description

The socket bayonet is unmarked, made for a .69 caliber musket; probably for a militia contract musket.  The angular blade measures 12 1/4 inches and is neatly attached to the socket (length is 3 inches).  There are no markings.  Metal has an even patina blending with old and some newer light surface rust, pitting is minimal.

The leather scabbard and frog are held together with a leather knot.  Leather is generally in fine condition with some chipping along the edges of the frog, its stitching all tight, and light wear, scuffing overall.  The scabbard leather is fine with most wear concentrated at the tip.  It never had a brass tip, and stitching is fine as well.

The frog loop will accommodate a belt 2 1/4 inches wide.

A great accoutrement and bayonet.  These early scabbards are hard to find anymore.
