Description
Small but significant 1/9 plate ruby ambrotype of a 13th New York Volunteer wearing his gray uniform overcoat, holding his forage cap with regiment numerals clearly visible (in reverse) on the front, and a nice set of accoutrements; waist belt, bayonet and scabbard, cap box, and his personal bowie knife tucked into the belt. His cartridge box plate is visible, and like all the metal components on the uniform have applied gilt by the photographer.
No identification to subject or photographer.
The gutta perch hanging frame is in good condition with the unfortunate chip along the top edge.
Nice early war image.
