General Order No 215 War Dept – Desertion of a 7th US Infantry Officer.
Dated December 26, 1862, this order from the Adjutant General’s office concerns the desertion of 2nd Lieutenant August Q. Nenber from his command on the 13th of December, just a hundred yards before the enemy. By the direction of the President, Nenber was “disgracefully dismissed” from the service. By order of E.D. Townsent, Adjt .Gen.
You don’t see or hear of many desertions by Regular Army officers during the Civil War. This took place during the Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia.
