Description
Grand Army of the Republic Parade Flag. 44 star U.S. flag printed on silk. Rolls up into a tube that is marked, “B.F. Butler Post 42 G.A.R. /Department Encampment / Lowell, Mass. 1890.”
The 10 x 7 inch flag is mounted on a thin pole, and when rolled up tight fits into the black tube with brass ends. This particular type parade flag was intended to be placed in the muzzles of .45/70 rifles, the primary rifle use by both federal and state troops, at that time.
The 44 star flag came in on July 4th, 1891, with Wyoming’s admission in the Union.
Overall condition is very good.
