This cap insignia was worn by a Civil War veteran who belonged to a G.A.R. Post 70.

Grand Army of the Republic Veteran’s Post 70 Cap Badge.
This cap insignia came from a collection, and there was no identification to the veteran, or what post this represented.
The construction is black wool gathered around an oval piece of brass wire, and sewn to hold in place. The gilt wreath, and the false embroidered “70” finished in silver are applied with their attached wires.
Very good condition.
