Description
M1840 Non Commissioned Officer’s Sword – Made by Ames Mfg Co., Chicopee, Ma.
32 1/4 inch blade, most of the original polish remaining, with some light blemishing. Ames marking on ricasso in engraved scroll, with the other side marked “U.S.” / C.S.L. / 1864.” Red Moroccan leather washer present.
Brass hilt in original mellow brass patina. Guard bow inspector mark, “JH.”
Scabbard leather is very good, with typical crease lines, and an open seam near the drag about 5 inches. The drag has inspector mark “G.W.C.” Red wool lining at throat present. Overall, the leather is sound.
A pleasing patina and condition on a fine wartime NCO sword.
