M1878 Blanket Bag Dyed In Dark Tan – Spanish War Era.  Has its original black bridle leather shoulder straps.  The color used on this bag is similar to that on the puttees from the Spanish American War period. This one has no US or arsenal markings and probably issued to State units. When the canvas was darkened, the whole bag was immersed in a vat of color as the buckles show the color residue on them as well. Lacking the narrow leather tie downs for the inner compartment.

The leather straps show heavy use, with crackled surface and general wear.
