Listed in O’Donnell’s/ Campbell American Military Belt Plates, plate 181.
Out of stock
The plate is a militia pattern listed in O’Donnell/ Campbell’s reference as a Common type C- 1825- 1835. Die struck using a combination of dies, with applied tongue and belt loop bar with keepers. The bass metal is copper and is pretty much void of any silver remaining on its surface. Despite the lack of silver, the silver plating plating wore away leaving a smooth, bright dark copper/bronze patina. With the laurel wreath in oval around a spread wings eagle with federal shield, and more laurel at the corners, this buckle has a beautiful appearance.
55mm x 71mm (The one in O’Donnell’s from the Flayderman Collection as close measurements; the difference in eye sight or in the finishing process).
