Model 1855 Springfield Pistol -SOLD

Model 1855 Springfield Pistol, dated 1856 on the breech tang. This pistol was originally issued to Dragoons, and held in pommel bags on the saddle, with a stock on one side the pistol on the other.  Walnut stocked with a 12 inch barrel, caliber .58, and fitted front sight, iron ramrod with swivel. The rear two leaf sight is mounted on the tang just forward of the tang screw. There are several dings in the metal toward the muzzle.  All of the furniture is brass.

The lock is fitted with a Maynard Tape Primmer, that functions when the hammer is pulled back. The primmer door has a clear federal eagle stamp, with U.S. SPRINGFIELD forward of door hinge. “1856”dated at the rear of the lock.  The trigger guard has a newer engraved collection number, and the ring is missing from the butt cap. The hammer holds at full cock, and appears that the sear is broken at the half cock. All parts are present.

The stock is very good with light dings etc, overall, with heavier marks near and on the inspector cartouche, yet it is clearly there.

A very good pistol, harder to obtain with or without a should stock. A worthy piece for the collection.
