Model 1872 Hagner No 2 Cartridge Box Modified For Cavalry Use

$265.00

Model 1872 Hagner No 2 Cartridge Box Modified For Cavalry Use. These No 2. pattern boxes are smaller that the previous model No.  1, with loops placed outside the inner box. Hold the same 24 cartridges, but these in the original .50/70 caliber. The modification was made by removing the closing tab and riveting it to the underside of the box, then placing the brass finial were the tab was originally place, thus allowing a mounted soldier easier access to his cartridges.

Stamped on the cover with the same sized US in oval, and having the swell in the side for a combination tool. Marked on the top section of box, “No.2,” and “H.C. over A.R.S.” (the later for A.R. Smith, inspector.

Fine to excellent condition.
