MVM 1886 First Pattern Marksman’s Buttons.  2nd Pair.

Beginning in 1886, the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia wore these buttons on the collars of the fatigue jacket or coat (depending on the unit’s uniform).  These are the first class button, whereas the 2nd and 3rd class buttons would have an applied number (2 or 3) to the upper right corner.

18mm square.

Complete with all the wire prongs on the reverse.
