Description
Naval Veterans Association of Connecticut Medal – 1861-1865. This organization was associated with the National Association of Naval Veterans of the United States. The were organized in Hartford, and were mentioned as being active in the 1890s, although like many other organizations of their type, were thinning in the ranks.
The medal is a bluish colored metal, perhaps aluminum, etc. It is round with an extended fowled anchor at the bottom. In the circular section is a chain and the name of the organization within the chain border. In the center is the USS Constitution. The Anchor has the date 1861-1865 at the top, U.S. Navy at the bottom of the anchor, and a riband that reads, Organized June 18, 1884. The red silk ribbon is original to the medal and held by a split pin brooch with locking latch, similar to that used by Tiffany & Co. and other quality makers.
No maker marking.
