Description

New York State 1851 Infantry Shako, made by John A. Baker, New York, as seen on his label inside on the crown of the hat.

A shako very closely follows the federal pattern, except for the use of SNY insignia, except for federal side buttons.  The plate is not the common type usually seen in this period.  I have added the pompom, which is correct for this hat.

Condition is very good, with some light mothing, but hard to see unless up close; some of the lining may be missing I just don’t know how much was there originally.

A hard piece of headgear to obtain.  These were worn in the early days of the Civil War until the state volunteers were federalized and issued uniforms.

A choice example.
