Description

Rare U.S. Artillery Corps 1st Lieutenant’s Shoulder Knots. The Artillery Corps was established in 1901, incorporating all units of artillery, both field and coast, and numbered as companies. This corps existed until about 1907, with the regimental system reestablished for field artillery, however, in 1902, separate insignia was proposed and excepted for each branch, wearing the new insignia for both field and coast artillery as of mid 1903, thus doing away with the insignia seen on these knots.

This knots bear the insignia for the corps with a red enameled center in the crossed cannons. This was replaced in 1903 when the Coast Artillery adopted the cross cannons with an artillery shell added to the center and retaining the red enamel.

Condition is excellent, show only the slightest of wear. Made by Ridabock & Co. New York.  There are a few tiny moth holes on the underside of one knot.

Very rarely seen knots, and usually not in this condition.
