Description

SHAPE Grouping- Cold War Era.  This group belonged to Army officer Captain Frank H. Hursey who was assigned to Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe from 17 May, 1958 to 30 April, 1961.  Hursey was a Signal Corps  officer, evidenced by the 2 swagger sticks bearing SC insignia.

This lot consists of the following:

  • Certificate from SHAPE signed by Colonel William A. Dodds, Headquarters Commandant. Named to Hursey, with dates of service; embossed SHAPE insignia.  Once framed and backed on stiff board, with some light stains.
  • Bevo SHAPE patch.
  • SHAPE pocket badge, maker hallmarked “ARI…/BERTRAND” and has the look of silver, with enamel on leather pocket hanger.  Three clutches hold in place.
  • Presentation swagger stick to Hursey, “FRANK H. HURSEY/ FROM THE NCO.’S/ B CO. 69th SIG. BN./ FORT MEADE, MD./ 14 MARCH, 1958.”  And on the top of the cap, “BON VOYAGE TO FRANCE.” Made with German silver mounts, and black enameled wood. Approx. 24 inches. Some light scuffing, a few small paint drops.
  • Swagger stick with distinctive unit insignia on white metal mounts, with FDR dime mounted on the tip, dated 1955.  Black enamel wood with many mother of pearl inlays. 20.5 inches.  Japanese made. Very good.
  • Pair of Dog Tags on chain, covered in tape.

Captain Hursey retired in 1962 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. I found a Frank H. (1921-2000) from Annville, PA. His grave marker at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery reads he had WWII, and Korean War service.
